We are very excited about the start of our 2017 market season. Planning is underway and it seems that we will have many new and exciting things to offer!
Our Saturday hours will be 8:30 am to Noon. Thursday hours are 4:30 to 8:30 pm. We will operate on the first Saturday and third Thursday of each month. The only exceptions will be in May when there will be no Saturday market and in October the market will be open on the second Saturday.
Our market will open this year on Thursday, May 18th at 4:30 pm. We will open with the Music at the Market, an outdoor concert series. Music at the Market is funded in part by a Local Challenge Grant awarded by the Virginia Commission for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts and matching funds contributed by the Town of Pearisburg in partnership with the Giles Arts Council. There will be a bluegrass band and meals to be purchased.
Please follow us on Facebook on the following pages for updated information about our Music at the Market series: Town of Pearisburg, Pearisburg Community Market and Farm to Fork. This information will also be available on our website at www.pearisburg.org.
Food this year will be provided from the hottest trend in the area, Food Trucks from the New River Valley. They will provide food on the third Thursday of each month. On Saturday the market will offer breakfast cooked by various civic groups and churches.
We will also continue our Children’s Art Program. This year we plan on making barn quilts, incorporating music and dance and having a reading program. All of these events will be listed on our sites and some may require registration so that all children will have the needed supplies. This will also ensure that the instructor has the help needed. All art programs are free of charge. We are excited to offer this to the youth in our community. This program is also funded in part by a Local Challenge Grant awarded by the Virginia Commission for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts and matching funds contributed by the Town of Pearisburg in partnership with the Giles Arts Council.
Carilion will be setting up at the market this year with various programs to promote healthy lifestyles. These programs will include education about living with diabetes and how to stop using tobacco among others. We are still scheduling these programs.
The Master Gardeners will assist with programs for our youth and adults alike.
The Extension Office will be providing food demos at the market, showing us how to eat healthy with in season fruits and vegetables. They will offer unique opportunities for our youth as well. Details are being worked out now.
This year we will have our 3rd Annual Little Miss/Mister Farmer Pageant. Samantha McCroskey heads this pageant each year. Come out support her and the adorable kids who participate on Saturday, June 3rd from 10am-Noon.
The Market is an alcohol free venue that hopes to provide a fun family gathering place where locals can meet for dinner, entertainment and shopping. Remember to shop Pearisburg first and that fresh is best!
We will post all of our events on the town’s webpage at www.pearisburg.org and on our social media pages.
We are currently recruiting vendors for our market season. We are seeking producers and artisans. If you make handmade items and would be interested in becoming a vendor please contact Lynne or Regina at 540-921-0340.
