Bicycle Safety

Bicycle riding is fun and healthy.  It is important to remember that a bicycle is not a toy.  Ride safe!  Ride smart!  Follow some basic safety tips.

Remember:

bullet

Wear a properly fitted bicycle helmet.

bullet

Wear proper clothing and shoes.

bullet

Adjust your bicycle to fit.

bullet

Check your equipment (tires and brakes).

bullet

See and be seen.  Wear neon or other bright colors.  Wear something that reflects light.  Remember that just because you see a driver doesn't mean that they can see you.

bullet

Control your bicycle.

bullet

Watch for and AVOID road hazards.  Watch for potholes, broken glass, puddles, and dogs.  Remember that wet leaves can be a hazard also.  All of these can cause accidents.

bullet

Obey all traffic laws.  A bicycle is a vehicle and you are the driver.  Obey all traffic signs, signals and lane markings.

bullet

Watch for parked cars.

bullet

Look before turning.

bullet

Enter a street at a corner and not between parked cars.
